Europe at Midnight

No rating

Continuation of the story of book one (Europe in Autumn). Hutchinson shakes it up and we get the perspective from the other side. The aftermath of a coup d'etat in a university sciences faculty is dealt with. A man is stabbed and left for dead after negotiating a bus fare a bit too boisterously. Also nukes. Nukes too. And sewer network exploration.

This book leans a bit more toward the police procedural/espionage genre than SF. Hutchinson delivers several good 'oh shit' revelations, and does a good job fleshing out the politics and factionalism that makes the inter-(intra? supra?)national divide so dangerous. Book three gets set up nicely, and it's on the TBR.
