Finished part 2. During this part we learn more about Robert Neville, about his wife Virginia and their daughter Kathy, about how both had passed away from the plague Kathy's body was taken away and probably burned but Robert looks Virginia's body and buried her in an abandoned lot. She returned back home the next day but that was the end of the flash back. Robert started doing research into the cause of the vampires, he got some books from the library and after reading came up with a theory that the vampires were caused by a virus. After obtaining a microscope he was able to confirm his theory kind of, it wasn't a virus but a bacteria. He found out that sun light does indeed kill the bacteria and that when the bacteria is in unlovable conditions it converts itself into spores that are reactivated once in livable conditions. Robert believes that the dust storms are what helped the bacteria spreed so fast due to infected dying and decomposing causing the spores to be released into the soil which would be reactivated from the dust storms causing abrasions in peoples skin allowing the spores to get into their blood stream. Robert also finds a dog and spends weeks building trust with it in order to try to keep it as a pet. After the dog not showing up for a couple days once it finally returns Robert notices that it's sick, so eventually he decides to catch it while it's going for food. Sadly the dog ends up passing away not long after he catches it and brings it inside since what ever was making it sick finally took hold. Robert now is more focused on his research since the dogs passing since he's kind of accepted his reality more. Robert also hypothesizes that certain elements of the vampires are psychological like the image of the cross, that some of the people infected basically went crazy after coming back to life.
