Review of 'American Civil Religion' on 'Goodreads'

4 stars

Even without the discussion on what the people of the United States hold sacred, this is a book full of interesting information and trivia about the most iconic things associated with our country. I learned about the fundraising for the base of the Statue of Liberty, what Irving Berlin decided to do with the royalties from God Bless America, and the original design for Mount Rushmore.

Throw in discussions about how the civil religious has held the U.S. together and affected the rest of the world, and the resulting book is a great read for someone like me who came in initially unfamiliar with the idea of civil religion.
