reviewed Rapport by Martha Wells (The Murderbot Diaries, #7.5)

Martha Wells: Rapport (EBook, 2025, Tor Publishing Group)

“Rapport: Friendship, Solidarity, Communion, Empathy” is a short story set in the world of Martha …

too short

feels like a deleted scene or flashback from the main novels of the murderbot diaries.

too bad. it could have been fluffed with more of the perihelion mission

Dennis Lehane: Since We Fell (2017, Ecco Press) No rating

interesting but it took a long time to really start

actually there is a first story about Rachel looking for her father. when this thread ends, there is a long “so what now” period a bit dull

it makes the last part feel rushed, but that’s just contrast. and it’s good, more would have been too much

Bernard Minier: Le cercle (French language, 2012)

bon polar

quelques tropes marqués : ‑ protagoniste qui devient aveugle ‑ tous les flics décident d’intervenir seuls, et ça carempouille

l’intrigue se tient mais le rythme n’était peut-être pas bien dosé à mon gout

Bernard Minier: Le cercle (French language, 2012)

impossible de mettre le doigt sur ce qui manque à ce livre pour être franchement bon ça se lit bien, l’intrigue est assez bien cousue

finished reading Exit Strategy by Martha Wells (The Murderbot Diaries, #4)

Martha Wells: Exit Strategy (2018)

"Martha Wells's Hugo, Nebula, Alex, and Locus Award-winning, New York Times and USA Today bestselling …

those are too short these first 4 should have been one novel though murderbot’s attitude might have been tiresome if i had to endure it too much

finished reading Glacé by Bernard Minier

finished reading Surface detail by Iain M. Banks (Culture, #9)

Iain M. Banks: Surface detail (Hardcover, 2010, Orbit Books)

It begins in the realm of the Real, where matter still matters.

It begins …

once again with bank’s culture books, it takes me some time to get into it. there’s always some resistance with the story. a bit like when the water is not warm enough to just throw yourself into

well, once you’re in, it’s great (2nd biggest lie in all humankind)

but yeah once it gets going, it’s better and it flowed better
