Settlers of the United States consistently create museums that highlight the horrors of the Nazi genocide against Jewish people without understanding that much of their own homes are built on land taken from Indigenous North Americans after they were moved or killed. Dunbar-Ortiz highlights the flaws in US American Civil Religion that would show the country as anything but a clone of the British colonial power US settlers left in 1776 to reveal a genocide that inspired Nazi ideology.
