Kawai but mouthwatering

This book was very Japanese: obsessed over the smallest details of recipes - where the potatoes come from or the size of breadcrumbs in millimeters. Each recipe found by the detective brings with it a back story which is heartwarming.

Interesting portrait

A deeply observed portrait of an outsider, set against thinly-veiled portrait of the luxe life in the Hamptons. My main problem was not wanting to spend time with the trainwreck of the main character, but that perhaps misses the point of the artistry.
