Good grief, why do we call boringly perfect characters Mary Sues when John Carter has been there the whole time? There's one passage that amounts to "My only flaw is that I am incapable of cowardice!" Throw in a bunch of white saviorism, "and then everybody clapped," and a fawning woman, and you have the ultimate power fantasy. I guess there was a time when you could write fan fic of your own OC and get published.

@Space_Burger_Steve@bookrastinating.com This is the first book I've read since December 2020. My stress levels were on the rise then, and I couldn't focus or concentrate. I was hoping it wouldn't be too much of a challenge, and it mostly wasn't, although I did have to re read a few particularly old timey phrasings.
