Kate Crawford: Atlas of AI (2021)

The hidden costs of artificial intelligence, from natural resources and labor to privacy, equality, and …

Review of 'Atlas of AI' on 'Goodreads'

This is one of the most important books of our times, very clearly laid out in highly readable language. This is the best overview of everything we should know but don't about the material and labor reality of AI, its logic of extraction and power. Crawford blasts the myths that the tech titans tell us about the power of AI and what these myths and fantasies hide. There is nothing magical about AI. It is all grounded in ecological, institutional, and political realities. And we should never forget it.
And of course, it's never neutral.
