I'm primarily a fantasy enthusiast though you might occasionally spot me reading something else. Here to keep track of and sometimes comment upon the books I read.

Susanna Clarke: Piranesi (2020, Bloomsbury Publishing Plc)

Piranesi's house is no ordinary building; its rooms are infinite, its corridors endless, its walls …

Lent to by a friend after I forcibly lent them a book I thought they would enjoy. I'm only 20 pagse in but so far it's very charming and fun.

Leigh Bardugo: The Language of Thorns (2017, Imprint )

Instant Favourite

I cannot overstate how much I enjoy fairy tale retellings with twists on the classic tropes, questioning who's really the villain and hero of each story (or if things are even that clear cut in the first place). Language of Thorns satisfies all that and more.

The first story offers an explanation for the title and commentary on the nature of fairy tales, to be kept in mind going forward. The rest are each self contained, though several themes and messages echo throughout all of them. I loved reading each one, though if I had to choose Little Knife and The Too Clever Fox would be my favourites.

Overall well written, great twists, great messages, and lovely art that grows along the page in pace with the stories.

Neal Stephenson: Snow Crash (Paperback, 2011, PENGUIN BOOKS LTD, UK)

Snow Crash is a science fiction novel by American writer Neal Stephenson, published in 1992. …

Eh!

My girlfriend lent me this to read on the plane when I had a long flight. Overall entertaining, I didn't feel like I was slogging through (mostly), but it takes itself Way too seriously for a book whose main character is named Hiro Protagonist.
