I read a wide variety books. Favorite fiction is magical realism and weird stuff. I do read bad bestsellers just to see what is popular. In non-fiction I read books on management and economics for work, and on history, different countries, and religion for leisure. My ratings tend to be on the critical side.

Ahmet Ümit: Patasana (Paperback, Everest Yaynlar, Everest Yayınları)

Like most Ümit stories, this is a mystery connected to Turkish history and culture. In this regard, there is a lot of interesting stuff, intertwined with ancient Hittite plates that serve as chapter breaks. The murder mystery itself is - as often in his books - kind of silly and underwhelming.

Robert L. Tignor: Egypt (2011, Princeton University Press)

"This is a sweeping, colorful, and concise narrative history of Egypt from the beginning of …

Very good overview of Egyptian history, though published right during the Arab spring, so the end is a bit speculative. Also there are a couple of repetitions. Otherwise, I greatly enjoyed this book and finally understand Egyptian history with all it's twists and turns.
