I wasn't impressed with how it started. A guy wakes up in a hospital bed with amnesia. Gee, I've never heard that before.

It gets better, though. The main characters are pretty well fleshed out and the world is interesting. It's an urban fantasy that falls somewhere between a mystery and a thriller. The magical elements are objects of power and traveling to and from parallel universes. There's a second book in this series that I'll probably read soon.
