Martin Amis: Money (Paperback, 2005, Vintage Books) 3 stars

Well written and clever but less enjoyable than many other Amis books

4 stars

Amis is one of my favourite writers, and I can see why this book is well regarded, but I will admit it wasn't as enjoyable to read as some of his works because of a highly unappealing central character. It pulled me in with the high quality of the prose and his impressive turns of phrase, and the plot had plenty of twists and turns to keep it interesting, as well as some amusing minor characters. finished reading Dune by Frank Herbert (Dune (1))

Frank Herbert: Dune (1980, Berkley) 4 stars

Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, …

Came back to read this after a 30+ year absence. Still blown away by the creativity of Herbert’s vision of a multi-planetary society. Has to rank as one of the best sci-fi books of all time. Also holds up well after seeing the recent movie.
