It’s not that it’s a bad book... it’s just YA fiction. Emotionally speaking - it’s for kids. Some YA books are more than wonderful to read, even as an adult, but this just wasn’t one of them for me. Would have loved it when I was, you know, a “young adult”.

That said, as another reviewer so wonderfully pointed out - That’s not what it’s like to live in a house where you walk on eggshells. That’s the kid-friendly cleaned up version. The Facebook meme version. That’s the version where you already know that what’s happening to you is wrong, and (SPOILERS) there’s somewhere else you can go, and you can go there with apparently no consequence other than having to move and leave your former life. It’s not the real eggshells. But that’s probably ok, because again, it’s a kids book.
