ACTION-PACKED CYBERTHRILLER SPANS the globe and asks the timely question: how would the world respond to a truly sentient artificial intelligence? Lots of excitement in the grand tradition of Michael Crichton and Brad Thor. B PLUS

Authors: please keep the promises to your readers! When you title your book 'Seven Ways to Kill a King' (A+ title, no notes), I expect, at a minimum:

1. SEVEN (7) king-slayings,

and

2. Seven (7) DIFFERENT king-slayings.

It's a bit of a bait and switch if only five kings get killed, and all the plans are variants on poison.

WITTY, OFFBEAT DETECTIVE story stars an unusual pair of private eyes—a sister and brother with a lot of mysteries in their past and some big secrets in their present. Clever plotting, great New York local color, lots of fun. B PLUS

It's not often that I get a hankering for some pre-war, English upper-class wit and banter. But when I do Wodehouse fills that niche nicely. The Prince and Betty starts a bit slow, but picks up and earns itself 4/5 stars 😁

ELECTRIFYING, WICKEDLY SATIRICAL dystopian novel is a powerful fable for our time—incarcerated women pitted against each other in gladiatorial battles by a for-profit prison chain try to find their common humanity. Strong and necessary. SOLID A

TWO WOMEN, ENMESHED by two eerily similar tragedies ten years apart, must find their ways through public scrutiny, their own misgivings, and the fragility of trust. Thoughtful, complex book is also a rollercoaster of psychological suspense. B PLUS

New Patreon post (will become public later):

Reviewing XX by Rian Hughes. Humongously thick book (980 pages!). This started interesting, but turned slowly into a PLEASE DON'T - despite the typographic fun.

BEAUTIFULLY CRAFTED THRILLER set in the art world of 1930s Berlin, the crumbling East Berlin of 1989, and the 1990s repatriation of Nazi-seized treasures is an engrossing puzzle, a vivid historical recreation, and a tough look at truth and love. A MINUS

Hi, Masto-friends! I've mentioned a few times (I think) how much I enjoyed Tales of the Ketty Jay, by Chris Wooding. You can read my thoughts in more depth here on Nerds of A Feather:

Books of 2023: "Bad Kids" by Zijin Chen ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5

Killer children always creep me out, but this one was done so well that I don't mind. The sinister nature and the twist and turn that this psychological thriller takes readers on will have you guessing up till the very last page. Mystery fans will immensely enjoy this one and have a hard time but enjoy guessing what crazy and creepy things will happen next.
