Instead, she drew together an elite corps of friends and allies to take on covert missions that the Justice Department and the Corps could not, or would not, officially touch. Torin just hoped the one they were about to embark on would not be the death of them.
It starts a new subseries, but the continuity of characters and themes in this novel is undeniable. It's a fine jumping on point, but having read the previous books it comes as a welcome reset of the status quo and carries on all the strengths of the series.
