Every trans person’s story is unique, as Jackson is quick to remind us throughout this memoir. And that’s all the more reason you should read his story. I’ve followed his work for quite a long time and he’s always managed to find that balance between humor and seriousness. The book is a great reminder that (unlike what we see so often in popular media) trans people are neither jokes nor tragedies. Which isn’t to say there isn’t lots of humor in here, along with some straightforward looks at the difficulties of being closeted and trans.

Jackson also goes out of his way to make sure there are plenty of educational sidebars directed at people who want to learn how to be better allies. There are tons of resources and further reading available and he’s pointing the way. I hope Jackson is proud to know that he wrote a book that …
