Ben Waber reviewed Philosophy in the Islamic World by Peter Adamson
An Insightful Tour of a a Broad Philosophical Tradition
5 stars
This book is an insightful tour of the varied schools of philosophy that have flourished across the Islamic world, encompassing not just Islamic scholars but also Christian and Jewish ones. Adamson clearly situates some of the most important developments in these traditions, following both historical and philosophical developments to show their deep engagement with Greek philosophy and the many intellectual innovations that they built on top of that over the centuries. If you're interested in this field this book pairs extremely well with Adamson's book on Ibn Sīnā. Highly recommend
