“I have been beaten, deceived and betrayed. They murdered my father—and I will have my revenge at whatever cost!”

1789: The magnificent city of Paris sees the dawn of the French Revolution. The cobblestone streets run red with blood as the people rise against the oppressive aristocracy. But revolutionary justice comes at a high price...

At a time when the divide between the rich and the poor is at its most extreme, and a nation is tearing itself apart, a young man and woman fight to avenge all they have lost.

Soon Arno and Élise are drawn into the centuries-old battle between the Assassins and the Templars—a world with dangers more deadly than they could ever have imagined.

You'd think that after reading Forsaken, I'd have learned my lesson with this author. Unfortunately not.

If you want to know the story of Assassin's Creed, you're better off playing the games instead. If you're not a gamer, too bad. Play the game anyway, because you will not get the full AC experience. If you're a fan and enjoyed the AC games, stick to them

This book was just like Forsaken: boring, dull, dry, drab, a snooze fest, etc. In AC3, Haytham was by far the most "liveliest" character. The same can be said for Ezio. However, Bowden manages to slaughter their characters and make the most suave and charismatic people seem like a stick in the mud.

Also, I was kind of disappointed to know that this was an adaptation of the game. I expected some sort of exclusive yet canon outlook on the hidden aspects of Ezio's life. …

TL;DR
I was disappointed by this novel, not only as a fan but as an "avid" reader as well.

For people who aren't fans of the game:
You aren't missing out by not reading this novel. As you can probably guess, this novel isn't written for you at all. But if you're really persistent, here's my review for those who haven't played Assassin's Creed III or any Assassin's Creed games for that matter. I'll keep it short.

I personally do not like Bowden's narrative style. It's rather dry and he downplays a lot of "should have been" big moments in the book. It lacks tension and conflict, which is rather concerning because that time period (American revolution) was full of it. There was so much that could have been done with Haytham's character and the people around him. It was just so boring. It was lifeless. It was just... There. …
