Four troubled souls, each with their failings and differences, pushing up against their space communities' machiavellian and violent politics, and growing closer together along the way. The text is short and pretty quick to action; even if built from some elements already known from the genre, very well constructed. I enjoyed the way the dynamics happening between the characters were described, in a big part through show through lenses of an overthinking, extremely avoidant woman that feels quite relatable; and how the characters' emotions showed not only in words and internal dialogues, but were also proxied to more senses through their Shadows. Their small but substantial personal progress feel real and inspiring. So do the politics, with different groups typical in- and out- fighting around prestige and economical gain...
