Taylor Drew reviewed The God and the Gumiho by Sophie Kim
Hot and dark
4 stars
What a lackluster review title for a lot of intense feelings that I still have. Since I read the author's last series, I shouldn't be surprised, but the beginning was so full of humor that the quick fall into darkness kind of caught me off guard. While at first, I thought that the pacing was a bit weird, now that I'm emotionally cooling, I think it was a pretty good fit given the intensity of the main characters.
I actually have the arc to the sequel already, so I won't have to wait long to (hopefully) feel some relief from the residual feels I have from the tears and I anxiety this book caused (this is a compliment), but I'll definitely have to write more than the word vomit I'm writing right now.
Anyway, this book is heartbreaking. And maybe there's some hope. Maybe. Read if you dare.
