Apollo reviewed Insurrecto by Gina Apostol
Was Worth a Second Try
4 stars
I started reading Insurrecto the first time exactly 5 years ago and wasn't able to get into reading it on the flight to the Philippines I was on and set it aside. I think the American character grated on me enough in that first attempt that I got the wrong impression of what the book would be. This time I relished the layered storytelling and entwined narratives, and even the crushing subject matter clicked for me.
