I found this series captivating, but it's heavy reading, so I didn't read it back to back. Having previously read the first book of the Mageborn series and not liking it at all, I decided to try this series without oneing it might explain a lot of the world of Mageborn. Now I might have another look at this series. If you're not into violence, brutality, or incestuous love, don't read this series. I found this series fascinating for a number of reasons: 1. I think Manning left a lot of loose ends and things unexplained, and just chalked it up to mystery. The ending seemed rushed to me. When Abby killed her father, it took me by surprise, although I guess I shouldn't have been since Ian was killed in under similar circumstances just a few chapters earlier. Other than the ending, I loved the book and the series. It's a testament to the fact that even kind, soft-hearted people such as myself are fascinated by violence. I've never been in a physical altercation in my life, but I love reading violent books.
