This is the opposite of vignette style novellas. There is an overarching theme so strong it's enough for a trilogy; but the most impressive story and the new character introduced were absolutely stellar, no pun intended.
It's so good! John Scalzi may be my favourite contemporary writer.
His language is geological to the 21st century, so I don't know if it will stick through ages. We will see...
