It is the second book by Adams featuring private detective Dirk Gently, the first being Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. Adams had intended to follow it with a third such novel, The Salmon of Doubt, but he died before completing it; an unfinished draft is included in a posthumously published collection of the same name. An easy and entirely enjoyable read, especially if you like private investigators enjoying mai tais in 1957 San Francisco. Featuring retired police detective Dirk Daiquiri, an Aloha shirt-wearing private investigator recovering lost cats and stolen Chinese statues. This trilogy is a light, enjoyable read while enjoying a mai tai or a martini.
