Todd reviewed Chasing Vermeer by Blue Balliett
Review of 'Chasing Vermeer' on 'Goodreads'
2 stars
This book would probably be enjoyable for its target audience of younger readers, but it doesn't hold up nearly as well for an adult reader as many other "juvenile fiction" books have. The resolution is too pat; there is no real reason given as to why two kids can solve a mystery where adults worldwide have failed, other than the kids happen to be the main characters of the story. Coincidence and circumstance play far too big a part in this book.
I wouldn't discourage my kids from reading this when they're older, and I won't be surprised if they enjoy it more than I did. But I don't think I find it necessary to collect the series for them in anticipation of that time.
