Edward is the King of England. He's also dying, which is inconvenient, as he's only sixteen and he'd rather be planning his first kiss than who will inherit his crown. Jane, Edward's cousin, is far more interested in books than romance. Unfortunately, Edward has arranged to marry her off to Gifford secure the line of succession. And Gifford is, well, a horse. That is, he an Eðian (eth-y-un, for the uninitiated) who becomes a chestnut steed every morning, but wakes as a man at dusk, with a mouthful of hay. Very undignified. The plot thickens as the three are drawn into a dangerous conspiracy, and have to engage in some conspiring of their own. But can they pull off their plan before it's off with their heads?

Review of 'My Lady Jane' on 'Storygraph'

I decided to start reading this book when I saw someone on Twitter describing it as the ultimate slump buster. I thought that sounded like just what I needed!
This book was so fun and funny. I loved the narrator's voice and tone of the book. The alternate history mixed with fantasy was very engaging.
I was also struck with the realization that I didn't know anything about this period of British history. I had never heard of Jane Grey, and while I had heard the name Tudor, I didn't really know what it was.
SpoilerThough, one of my favorite bits was the suggestion that G was really Shakespeare. I noticed that pretty quickly.

Review of 'My Lady Jane' on 'Goodreads'

I wish I remembered who recommended this to me. Without that recommendation, I would have missed a heck of a romp—just what the doctor ordered. My Lady Jane is an alternate history take on Lady Jane Grey's story (including cousin King Edward VI and his sister Queen Elizabeth I), injected with shapeshifters and a bunch of humor. The silly quotient isn't terribly unlike The Princess Bride (well, maybe a little sillier). Anyway, good fun!
