Easily my most favorite historical fiction. I read it as a teenager, and have re-read it multiple times since then. The story of Rob Cole who wants to become a real physician instead of merely a barber-surgeon, in the 11th century. In the guise of a Jewish man, he travels all the way to Persia to study in Isfahan.
Colorful and broad in scope, I highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in historical fiction. Of all the Cole Family books it's easily the most enjoyable one.
