Fforde is very formulaic, and this is a huge drawback. But hey, writers need to put food on the table...

...and also put food for thought on the readers' table.

Which he does quite successfully.

Hey, he even made a joke at the expense of modern commies!

Anyhow, can't be five stars, shouldn't be less than four.

Quote of the book must be the scene where the female character receives a bunch of calls during a radio-interview.

Scenes like this differentiate real feminist allies (like Fforde) from people who are for everything good and against everything bad.
