Matthew Hopkins lost his father at a young age. He and his mother struggled, but he found great comfort attending retreats with her. As an adult, he was aware that he had an undiagnosed disability, which made life very difficult. Having built up a strong relationship with a local Buddhist monastery; he was taken in by them. As a means of self expression and personal development, he wrote short stories and poems of a beautiful, religious nature, a selection of which he would later offer to the public via Diary of a Schizo (Nine Hearts Publishing, 2002) and There's Never a Dull Moment! - Cursum Perficio (Nine Hearts Publishing, 2002).
