The book was interesting, and gave me something to try. But Phelan's methods aren't appropriate in every situation nor with every kid. You really have to know your own child and consider context. The punishment system wasn't appropriate if my daughter was tired, hungry, sad, or at all unwell--it only made things worse. I've had to adapt the system heavily to our own situation, which is fine.
