Exciting at parts but took me too long

It took me almost a year to read it, but still I didn't struggle to follow the plot. I don't remember much of Rand in this book but much more about Perrin and Matt perspectives with I enjoyed. There are also a couple of hate-love relationships that I found interesting, though a bit predictable.

Respect 🙇 and sake 🍶

Found this book as looking for something that could introduce me to the Japanese culture, and knowing know what I didn't knew at the start I think it did a great job. I liked very much how the food and drink are described, the serving, the eating and it's texture. Showing the importance that food deserves. Though I read the book very slowly (4 months!) I enjoyed that pace and the pace of how the story os presented. I found the evolution of all the characters very interesting.

A few road trips through US in the 50s

There are some interesting facts about this book that attracted me to read it. I first heard about it from Cory Doctorow's Little Brother. Then I found this page (dennismansker.com/ontheroad.htm) useful to put in context the journeys distance and the type of cars. The reading was entertaining and it is an interesting analysis on friendships.

reviewed The Great Hunt by Robert Jordan (The Wheel of Time, #2)

Robert Jordan: The Great Hunt (EBook, 1991, Tor)

A hunt with a mule

Lots of action and twists, with new creatures and civilizations. Maybe because we have a better understanding who the main characters are, I feel it at a higher pace than the previous one. I had a lot of fun! Whereas the first annoyed me with the men/women stereotypes, this one made me smile how it shows that the women have the control of everything but without the men realising it.

Fantasy in a segregated society

I started this book after I heard about its TV show, and learnt that this is one of the longest fantasy series. I haven't read much fantasy either. I enjoyed this first book, the adventures of a group of friends from a village that they need to escape their home town. Robert Jordan gives a very good detail of every thing that happens during their journey, and how the society are structured. I found that society structure quite puzzling. Women and men have different roles and duties on their everyday lives. They are not shown as one lower than the other, but it uses many stereotypes of our real society. The woman takes care of the kitchen while the man attends the business - this was a bit annoying (I suppose as our society). However, there done stats¹ that seems to indicate that the following books will get more gender …
