some really gorgeous shots of marilyn, this would make a great coffee table book. when i bought it, i expected it to be predominantly photos with details of designers but there were quite a few interesting facts and information i hadn’t read before. one critique i have, is that i could personally have done without the author’s unnecessary commentary in sections. for example on page 223:
“this is one of the few times when she got everything wrong. the dress is too tight, the pose forced, the gloves are ugly, and the hair is messy without any flair. worst is the silly hat that resembles an inverted knit flowerpot.”
those comments aside, an interesting read that has reignited my love for marilyn
My psychologist recommended I get my hands on this book as “I have a lot of commonalities with the author”.
I consumed this faster than I have any other book in a long time and I cried through it all.
The detail to which Lily shares the goings on of her thought process was incredible; to the point where I found myself shoving my head in my pillow due to some sort of secondhand embarrassment/deep understanding because my mind works in such a similar way.
This gives me hope and I’m so grateful she decided to share her story with such honesty and openness.
