Imagine if your formative ideas about how economies work coalesced at a time when GDP growth was 4% to 3%…

and then 20 years later you found yourself Chancellor of the Exchequer and think there is a way to get back to that…

despite there being well over half a trillion tonnes more CO2 in the air, far far greater demand for oil and gas, and far far less biodiversity, but you don’t really think that changes things

2024 was the year when the changes became noticeable with the naked eye for me.

We haven't had any real snow at all this year before christmas. That has never before happened during my lifetime.

It's been getting warmer all my life. Less snow, earlier springs, longer, hotter summers. But until this year, the changes were still somewhat hidden in the normal fluctuations of the weather. I had to look at charts to be sure about the size of the changes.

For example, it always snowed the first time some time in November or December, and some times it melted right away, some times it stayed for a day or more, some times it was just a little bit, some times a lot, and overall it was kind of impossible to know if and how much one year was different to the years before. Most humans cannot …

An Eastbourne friend just told us about how he went to hear Simon Reeve at the Congress theatre on Friday. He showed us this image he had taken from Reeve’s talk: “this amount of ice melts every HOUR. You could hear a pin drop in the audience. When you see it like that it really brings it home.”

Well done Simon Reeve for talking about climate change in the Eastbourne Congress theatre (not a climate activist crowd, more the opposite) - and for using an image that works.

“You can't recycle your way out of the climate emergency. Practically speaking, you can't even recycle. All those plastics you lovingly washed and sorted ended up in a landfill or floating in the ocean. Plastics recycling is a hoax perpetrated by the petrochemical industry, who knew all along that their products would never be recycled.”

@pluralistic couldn’t find better words to describe my agony every time I have to deal with “sustainable design”

For the last two weeks in , we have had one “Bomb Cyclone “ (wind storm) after another. Our nighttime lows are what were our daytimes highs normally. Right now in the dark, I hear the wind ripping at my home with rain pelting my windows.
