Smoke on the Water

One of my very early attempts at a long exposure. The colours are a mix of smoke from fire hazard reduction burns, and sparse clouds.

A colourful sunset viewed across a large bay. The sky of smoky yellow orange (from fire hazard reduction burns) fades to a pale blue above. The long exposure reflects the colours in the smoothed water surface, and gives the smoky effect around the boulder strewn shoreline in the near foreground, the wet rocks reflecting different colours in the scene.

North Canyon Pool

Roughly 20 miles south of Lees Ferry on the Colorado River is a sub canyon known as North Canyon where we camped on night 1. In the morning we hiked as far back in the canyon as possible without any climbing gear.

North Canyon Pool This is an image of a small pool that we came across while hiking the North Canyon in Grand Canyon National Park. This pool served as a great spot to cool off before we returned back to the Colorado River. The pools water was clear and as still as can be offering this mirror affect on the waters surface. The pool area consist of a reddish/brown rock that blocked our path forward. The curves and folds in the rock show many layers of rock deposited over the centuries and the exposed by earthquakes and erosion.
