Am I disturbed by these attacks on cars and dealerships? Yes.

However I must also take their context into account. And the context is this:

Yes, there are legal and less-violent ways of fighting than this. However, in the last decade or two, Western Democracies have largely failed to use them. The is the worst example, of course - but also flunked the test, as evidenced by how the authorities and political parties failed to take a strong stand againat the (including failing to start the process of outlawing them).

And if legal and less-violent actions are not taken... then sooner or later illegal and violent actions are the only ones left, especially once the fascists have already taken over (as it has happened in the USA).

And as a tactic for opposing fascism, I think …

Mar 13. Are you mindful of your readers’ expectations? How so?

My readers expect English-language translations of German folk tales, which is already a pretty rare thing.

But I can't just translate the tales themselves and call it a day (or worse, run the texts through an translator) - I need to provide _context_, for otherwise these tales won't make a lot of sense to my readers. 19th century is culturally pretty removed from 21st Germany - let alone from modern international readers, many of whom have never even visited the country. They _need_ some pointers to what is going on in these stories.

A second German tourist was held in a detention centre after having his Visa revoked by the U.S.

Sielaff is back in Germany after being held for two weeks without cause or explanation.

Jessica Brösche, a German tattoo artist who spent 8 days in solitary confinement without a pillow or a blanket, is still being held. She’s been detained for six weeks.

The U.S. is not a safe place to travel anymore.

Vote with your dollars (and your feet!) and go literally anywhere else.

This is especially applicable to my fellow Canadians. Don’t risk your freedom or support the economy of a country whose leader is threatening to annex us.

Meanwhile in Germany.... after years of the 'debt brake' fiscal limits (self-imposed constitutional limits on deficit spending), it looks like the need for an expansion of defence spending & Germany's infrastructure requirement, has prompted a potential reform (to be voted on this week) that allows some aspects of deficit spending to bypass the constitutional limitation.

Its like Keynsianism seems to be in the air; I wonder whether Rachel Reeves can see it yet?

Some musings on the upcoming movie:

Well, changing folk tales to suit new audiences is a well-established tradition, and something done by the Brothers Grimm themselves - so I can't fault for that.

However, I am getting tired of Disney

(a) retreading the same ground over and over again, and

(b) shoving all this pro-Monarchy propaganda down our throats. I am extremely leery of portrayals of monarchs as "good people", especially nowadays that people like the loons seem to actually gain major political influence.

Coincidentally, there are quite a few German folk tales about "good kings and emperors" who sleep beneath a mountain somewhere and would return in "Germany's hour of greatest need". This reflects the time these tales were written down in - after the Holy Roman Empire was shattered during the Napoleonic Wars at the start of …

okay, I am gonna write this down so later I can point to it and tell people I told you so.

PREDICTION:
1. Friedrich Merz is going to lose a vote of no confidence by late 2025 if he gets into a coalition with the AfD.
2. he is going to lose a vote of no confidence by 2027 at the latest if the CDU/CSU gets into a coalition with another party

Friedrich Merz is not a leader and has no inherent charisma. He will completely falter once he has to do actual politics.

Merz is gonna try and build a right-wing government together with the AfD.

He's been laying the groundwork for years now.

Union-voters will pretend to be unhappy for a while, and then will forget about the problems because oh look football
