Fascinating world of ancient : This flask in the form of a fish was found in Cologne, 3rd c. AD.
We don't know what is was used for, maybe the shape relates to the content (fish sauce), maybe it was used to hold oil.

Beloved : a pair of ivory with articulated arms and legs found in a tomb of a little from a wealthy family in Emona, Ljubljana/Slovenia.

The majority of the dolls in Roman times were made of less valuable materials such as clay, wood or linen.

The two dolls that could be dressed with clothes must have been very precious to the girl who died far too young.

Dating 2nd half of the 3rd c. AD.

It was wooden, long & somewhat oddly shaped.

What was obvious? That it was actually an & the 90s scientist was a bit squeamish.

It's 16cm now, but may have been bigger (wood shrinks with age).

For New Year’s Day a small bottle in the shape of a date: Dates, figs, and honey were traditional Roman New Year's gifts. According to the poet Ovid, these items were believed to ensure that the coming months would be sweet ones.
