I've just finished a reread of Jingo by Terry Pratchett

First of all this is one instance where I enjoyed the new audio edition.

But most of all I'm so sorry we don't have Vimes to come and arrest the leaders of this war and Vetinarri to bamboozle everyone into a diplomatic solution.

It's been 10 years.

I often wonder how Tiffany is doing?
What's young Sam up to?
What's Moist doing with his time?
Is Vetinari still going, or did he finally meet his match?

Most of all though, I miss the new words. The characters were my friends, the Discworld my hideaway.

I miss all of them, as well as their creator - even though I never met him.

Terry's words made me who I am today. They gave me the courage to ask questions, to stand up for what is right and have comforted me in my grief.

Thank you for your words Terry, they mean so much to so many. You live on in so many of us.

Mundodisco con capítulos, el menos mejor

Tal vez mi entrega menos favorita del Mundodisco hasta el momento posiblemente en buena medida porque es una novela que no pone nada fácil el traducirla. En la versión en español optan por hacer hablar a los Nac Mac Feegles en una especie de asturiano con toques gallegos que me sacaba constantemente de la historia. Y no creo que sea una mala decisión de traducción, simplemente me parece que no había solución buena. En general las novelas del Mundodisco más orientadas a un público juvenil las disfruto menos y esta no ha sido una excepción. Pero aun así sigue siendo una novela de Pratchett (#speakHisName) que siempre te deja una sensación calentita por dentro y te reconcilia un poco con el mundo.

Mundodisco juvenil

Algunas lecturas tienen su recuerdo ligado a momentos muy concretos que nada tienen que ver con el libro en sí. Esta novela por ejemplo la recordaré como el libro que estaba intentando leer en una etapa de estrés extremo que hizo que tardase dos semanas en leer sus últimas 90 páginas. Afortunadamente esta entrega es una rara avis dentro de la saga de Mundodisco y está más orientada a un público juvenil así que tras ese interludio pude retomar la lectura sin haber olvidado ningún detalle importante de la trama. Al ser una novela más juvenil Pratchett (#speakHisName) deja de lado su faceta más mordaz e irónica y opta por un humor más directo. Pero esto no significa que sea un libro simplón ni mucho menos. 75th Birthday. Now that would have been an epic party!
