I was chatting a bit with an older lady who was at the , and she asked me about my tag (which is just my business card 😊), and I mentioned I'm covering the event and getting the word out on .

She said "now I know about 'mastodon' as a big hairy beast…what do you mean by it?"

I said "oh, it's one of the newer social networks"

She was very excited to hear that news, and went over to go tell her friends all about it. 😄

Forever!

I'm thinking of getting a .

I rented a bike in once. It was harrowing. There were no bike lanes, so I had to ride in traffic.

I'm blind in my left eye. That's the side traffic is on.

I live in the area, which has some (narrow) bike lanes.

Does anyone have any experience or insight into whether I should even be considering this? I've almost been run over many times as a pedestrian. I assume it will be worse as a cyclist.

Well Worn Pilings Portland Maine by Debra Martz

The , from piers of the past, remain in a collective heap at the cruise terminal. I found them intriguing in their weathered & worn state, and even more so when a single cormorant landed on one with its "matching colors" of silver, black, & orange. A beautiful display of nature amidst the relics of the maritime past.

Storm clouds were building on this October day but light was finding its way through, highlighting the historic fort & moored boats. Built from 1858 to 1864, no battles were fought there & no troops were stationed there. Advancing military technology, including ironclad ships and long-range guns, made the fort obsolete before it could be used.

Bug Light Under a Dramatic Sky Vertical by Debra Martz The lighthouse was originally built in 1855, as a wooden structure, replaced with a classical iron structure in 1875. The light was fully restored in 1989 & was reactivated in 2002. It appears as a private aid to navigation in the US Coast Guard Light List as South Portland Breakwater Light.
