Lovely people in the north of #england or #scotland who enjoy crime, fantasy and humour with a hint of #pratchett...or just having a good laugh, Caimh (C.K. McDonnell) puts on an amazing event on his book tours. He's a former standup comedian and he knows how to entertain.

Bon. On est nombreuxes ici à aimer Pratchett. Mais on ne crie pas assez fort notre amour pour Patrick Couton, son traducteur en français.

Je suis en train de relire Pyramides, par exemple, qui parle du royaume qui borde le fleuve Jolh. En VO, le fleuve s'appelle "Djel", et le royaume qui longe le fleuve, parodie de l'Égypte antique, s'appelle "Enfant du Djel" : Djelibeybi.

Les Jelly Babies, ce sont des confiseries anglaises, assez proches apparemment des oursons en gélatine qu'on connaît mieux ici (Peut-être plus durs sous la dent).

Comment on traduit une référence incompréhensible ailleurs qu'en Grande-Bretagne ?

Quand on a le génie de Patrick Couton, c'est simple : on renomme légèrement le fleuve, de Djel en Jolh, et le royaume devient naturellement : Jolhimôme.

Also, free #housing, #publicTransport and a livable environment are fundamental. #Learning and #teaching are crucial for individuals and society. Tech won't solve our core problems, merely highlight them and perhaps provide tools for change we can use.
