“The Uncanny Adventures of Adam Honey” is a story by Lex Baker.

Adam Honey is orphaned on his sixth birthday. He is sent to an orphanage where another boy, DJ, claims to have known him “forever.” The two become friends and grow up largely insulated from the problems of the outside world, where environmental disasters signal a dying planet. On coming of age, Adam and DJ leave the orphanage to make their way in the world. The pair become lovers. Adam becomes a policeman, and DJ a professor. But there’s more going on in the world than simply the breakdown of technology and environmental disasters. An ancient evil is escaping its prison, and Adam seems to be the person destined to stop it.

Route 666 (now mostly renumbered 491) was an American highway that wound through Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico. Due to the associations of 666 with the Antichrist, the route was rumoured to be cursed. The road was said to be haunted by a phantom 1930s car that forced drivers off the road, a demonic smoke-and-fire-belching truck, and skin walkers, dangerous creatures from Navajo myth. There were also accounts of a ghostly female hitchhiker and UFOS, which allegedly created timeslips - meaning drivers could disappear then reappear miles down the road not knowing what had happened to them. Much of the road's mythology might have come about thanks to its high accident rate - its renumbering in 2003 coincided with safety improvements.

Does your antagonist believe in the supernatural?

I dunno who the antagonist(s) even is (are) right now, but that's kind of a trick question, tbh. Magic exists. Strange and magical creatures exist. Things beyond our and their current understanding exist. Fk, I exist and I'm a tiefling. So calling those SUPERnatural implies that they like, exist outside of the natural order or reality as it is. And tbh, if something exists then it is by definition not outside that order.

Okay so maybe I dunno, it is UNnatural, like not a thing that exists without intervention. Driders are a good example. Uhm, hn. Golems. Plastic for sure. Dubstep (jk).

And maybe it's not naturally occuring on the current plane of existence so it's extraplanar, as in from elsewhere or other realities.

But supernatural? Paranormal? They're easy shorthand but tbh they are sort …
