New review: Complementing other recent books on the Challenger expedition, The Wake of HMS Challenger brings a focus all of its own to the subject and firmly stands on its own two feet as a thoroughly enjoyable work of science history.

This week's at the library: An eclectic trio!
- Just in time for my review of The Wake of HMS Challenger, I found a second-hand copy of At Sea with the Scientifics from the University of Hawaii Press, which collects Joseph Matkin's letters home.
- Look what you made me do, Jordan Sorcery! I tracked down a very affordable copy of Jack Yeovil's Krokodil Tears in his Dark Future series.
- One more book from my employer's January sale: and Human Evolution from Belknap Press.

I just finished Gone Girl after finding it in the thriftstore last year and remembering seeing the movie long ago and thinking it was good 🤔

Thrillers aren't usually my cup of tea but this one is really good 4,25/5 stars 😁

I read Soulless: The Complete Omnibus by Gail Carriger & Rem. It’s the manga adaptation of Carriger’s Parasol Protectorate steampunk paranormal romance series, and it’s delightful.

Kristi reviews "The Measurement Problem" by David Whitmarsh:

"Set in a near-ish future in which not only is there mass migration in London due to the rising sea... I devoured the story in two days, and imagery from it still haunts me. I’m so grateful to feel so inspired while writing this review. Thanks to Whitmarsh for his ideas and thoughtful narrative."
