Jean le Flambeur gets up in the morning and has to kill himself before his other self can kill him first. Just another day in the Dilemma Prison. Rescued by the mysterious Mieli and her flirtatious spacecraft, Jean is taken to the Oubliette, the Moving City of Mars, where time is a currency, memories are treasures, and a moon-turned-singularity lights the night. One of the most confusing books I've ever read. I'll probably have to read again to completely understand it. Author doesn't explain much, just dives in. And it's not the kind of stuff that your average reader would understand, it's very hard to follow at first.

So much fun! But I have to admit, I'm not sure if some of the concepts were beyond me or merely not intended to make much sense outside of some homage to theoretic mathematics (which would still be beyond me). Still, I'm intrigued by the world, enamored with the technology, and will be plunging right into the sequel. If I enjoy the sequel as much as I enjoyed this, but it doesn't increase my understanding of everything that happened in this book, I'll probably be re-reading this again. And that's coming from someone who doesn't usually re-read books.
