Fry can tend to ramble (Hmmm. Who do we know like that?). However, his rambling is punctuated by sections of stellar whit or insight and those are what makes this book worth it. I wrote down more highlights for this book that 90% of what I've read before.
What helps is that Stephen and I are politically and socially aligned. While you might think that socially is more important (Stephen's a big 'ol fag!), its politically that carries the day (Stephen's a big 'ol Labour boy). It helps that he's into technology and a bit of science fiction, although those qualities don't at all permeate the book.
This is something to read if you're interested in a look back on British culture as it was by someone who lived through it. It's the only thing I've read that has given me a reasonable look at public school education as it …
