Kadomi reviewed Eona: the last Dragoneye by Alison Goodman
Review of 'Eona' on 'Goodreads'
3 stars
This direct continuation of the story begun in Eon kind of disappointed me. The scope seems much bigger. Eona has now revealed her gender to everyone and supports the rightful heir to the throne, Kygo. But in order to learn to use her new powers they need to free the only other Dragoneye left, Lord Ido, the villain from the first book.
This leads to my least favorite trope ever, the love triangle. Torn between Kygo and Ido, the latter the guy who tried to sexually assault her in the first book, but now he's suddenly hot? Whatever. I disliked Eona for large stretches of the book, and didn't really care about the side characters this time round. The trans woman Dela for example was far more interesting in the first book.
At least there's a satisfying conclusion, so it was not all disappointing. Still, that's only 2.5 stars rounded …
