An epic novel of the violence and depravity that attended America's westward expansion, Blood Meridian brilliantly subverts the conventions of the Western novel and the mythology of the "wild west." Based on historical events that took place on the Texas-Mexico border in the 1850s, it traces the fortunes of the Kid, a fourteen-year-old Tennesseean who stumbles into the nightmarish world where Indians are being murdered and the market for their scalps is thriving.

Review of 'Meridiano de sangre' on 'Goodreads'

A book I probably would have missed had it not been part of the Humble Bundle's audio book bundle.

Blood Meridian is a brutal and harrowing novel about the Glanton Gang. It is most definitely not for the squeamish as the prose is naked and unflinching in describing the violence surrounding the protagonist.

In style it is pretty similar to [b:The Road|6288|The Road|Cormac McCarthy|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1320606344s/6288.jpg|3355573], the only other McCarthy work I've read; the protagonist is known only as "the kid" and the language is rather sparse and almost staccato.
